On September 7, 1948, Dr. Almond Zellmer founded this practice on the corner of West Grand Avenue and 4th Avenue North. After the downtown renovation in the early 1950’s the building the office was in was torn down. The Wisconsin Rapids Police Department and City Hall now fill the location of the original office. The office moved across the river to East Grand Avenue, across from the Hotel Mead (between Wood County Telephone Company, now Solarus, and McMillan Library). Later that year, Dr. Paul Fleming, a graduate from the Illinois College of Optometry, joined Dr. Zellmer and the firm was renamed Drs. Zellmer and Fleming.
In 1979 Dr. Zellmer retired from the practice, at which time Dr. Michael Downs, a Magna Cum Laude graduate from the Illinois College of Optometry, joined the practice. In 1981 the practice moved to 1730 7th Street South. In 1985 Dr. Kathi Leach, Dr. Downs’ wife, joined the practice and it was renamed Drs. Fleming, Downs and Leach. In January 1989 Dr. Fleming retired from the practice. Dr. Downs was then the only full-time optometrist on staff with Dr. Leach working one day every other week in the office besides maintaining her own practice in Mosinee. In January 1991 the name of the practice was changed to Downs Eye Care.
On October 9, 2015 Dr. Peter Falk joined the practice as a part-time associate optometrist. Dr. Falk is a native of Wisconsin Rapids, graduating from Lincoln High School in 2005. Dr. Falk graduated Cum Laude from the Illinois College of Optometry on May 18, 2013. When Dr. Falk started at the office he was living and practicing in Madison at the time until he moved back to town in August 2016.
On January 1, 2018 the name of the practice was changed to ReVision Eye Care, LLC when Dr. Falk became a partner in the office.

Dr. Falk returned to the Wisconsin Rapids community and joined the office, Downs Eye Care at the time, in October 2015. Dr. Falk became a partner in the office, which was renamed ReVision Eye Care, LLC, on January 1, 2018.
He enjoys the opportunity to provide care to his hometown. He enjoys caring for children and adults of all ages. It is a privilege to provide the best care possible; whether that be glasses, contact lenses or managing medical conditions affecting the eye.
Dr. Falk enjoys spending quality time with his wife and children. When the season is right, you can find him on the golf course, running or enjoying the outdoors.
Michael Downs - retired April 2023
Doctor of Optometry
Dr. Downs earned his Doctorate of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago where he graduated with honors. He feels privileged to have provided eye care to the Wisconsin Rapids community since 1979. He enjoys caring for his patients the best possible and strives always to give his patients the best possible vision – with glasses and contact lenses as well as by managing medical eye conditions.
A member of the Wisconsin Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association, Dr. Downs is continuously learning in order to provide his patients with the most current techniques and the latest technology available for eye care.
Dr. Downs and his wife, Kathi, enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities – especially hiking and biking.
Anna Nicole (Niki) Kneiert
Doctor of Optometry
Dr. Kneiert is originally from Janesville, WI, where she was born and raised. She received her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biology, with a minor in Spanish, from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse and continued on to the Indiana University School of Optometry where she earned her Doctor of Optometry degree in 2023. During Dr. Kneiert’s time in optometry school, she completed multiple different externships focusing on ocular disease, pediatrics and primary care while working under distinguished mentors. Dr. Kneiert is fluent in Spanish. She is excited for the opportunity to serve the Wisconsin Rapids community!
Dr. Kneiert and her fiancé, Andrew, along with their new puppy Río are looking forward to making Wisconsin Rapids and the surrounding community home. In their free time they enjoy hiking, kayaking, and attending dog training classes!
